I've seen some saying they are having issues with the two. You are able to have capital letters in your name but its after you sign up. You must click on your profile and then click modify profile. From there type what you want under screen name.
As for avatars also go to the modify profile section and type in the url to what you want in avatar URL. It says the limit is 100x100 but I have changed it to 200x200.
